Pinvisio didn’t start as a business idea. It started as frustration.
Every golfer knows the feeling. You hit what feels like a perfect shot — the kind you replay in your head before the ball has even landed. And yet, when you reach the green, the result tells a completely different story. Suddenly, a great swing turns into a chip from nowhere, or worse.
That happened to me over and over again during a club competition in Finland in 2021. Not because my shots were bad — but because I didn’t know where the pin actually was.
The moment that changed everything came on the 17th hole.
I was playing well. After 16 holes, I was -1 and right in the mix. The 17th was a beautifully designed par 5 — risk and reward in its purest form. A creek crossed the fairway, tempting you to go for the narrow left side. Clear it, and you’d have an iron into the green.
I went for it.
I hit one of the best tee shots of my life. Straight, controlled, exactly where I aimed. The distance to the green was 155 meters — perfect 7-iron territory. Everything felt aligned. Calm. Focused.
I swung.
The ball launched high, tracked straight at the flag, and never left it. For a moment, nothing else existed. Just the ball, the pin, and the quiet hope every golfer knows: please go in.
It landed, took one hop — and disappeared.
I thought I had just made a double eagle.
Walking toward the green, my mind was already on the 18th hole. A short par 3. A big green. One more solid swing away from winning. I even started rehearsing the victory speech in my head — thanking my playing partners, the staff, maybe even the weather.
Then I reached the hole. It was empty.
The ball had flown just a few meters too far. It landed on a downslope, bounced over the back bunker, and went out of bounds. Bogey. Tournament over. I finished one shot short.
Standing there, the thought hit me hard: If I had known the pin was tucked all the way at the back, I would have played a completely different shot. And it wasn’t just that hole. All round long, I had been punished by the same thing — short-siding myself, guessing distances, flying shots past pins I couldn’t see. Not because of poor decisions, but because of missing information.
After the round, I felt robbed. Not by the course. Not by bad luck. But by uncertainty.
That’s when the question formed: Why don’t golfers know where the pin actually is?
I understood why daily green maps weren’t realistic. Too much work. I also understood why this couldn’t be solved with an app. Golf is a sports where players want to disconnect — not reach for their phones every hole. The problem was real — and it affected every golfer, every day.
Then the idea surfaced. What if tee markers could show the real pin location?
At first, I assumed this already existed. Surely someone had solved this. I even told our club manager I’d look it up and send him a link to order them.
There was no link.
They didn’t exist.
The idea stayed with me. Year after year, round after round. Every great shot followed by an avoidable mistake reinforced the same belief: golf shouldn’t punish players for information they never had.
In 2024, I finally decided to stop thinking about it and start building it.
After countless prototypes, design iterations, and real-world testing, Pinvisio became real — a simple, physical solution to a very real golfing problem.
